Meet Ruth Kent

2013 was a year that will forever shape the work I do. I experienced the loss of both my maternal and paternal grandmothers both within a few months of each other.

And in those same months, while working through grief, I found myself giving CPR to a stranger in the street, and helping my husband prepare for and recover from open heart surgery.

The emotional rollercoaster throughout this period was immense. Loss, fear, shock, hope, relief, sadness…

While at the time the stress from these events was overwhelming, I also saw that there was a message in there for me.

I believe in the magic of living a life of purpose and energy. I don’t believe we are here to simply work and die, without questioning and looking for more.

We spend an average 90,000 hours at work over our lifetime. It has to be a place where people are supported to thrive.

Happier, healthier, more connected people can make the world a better, more productive and connected place to live.

I created Sunrise Well because I care about people waking up and living fulfilling lives.

I am an avid learner, a lifelong student, and a studier of people. I love to bring the science and research of public health, psychology and health sociology, and the wellbeing practices of mindfulness, wellness coaching, and yoga together to look at workplace wellbeing from a variety of views.

I first learned to meditate at the age of 15, back when meditators were hippies and I only spoke about it behind closed doors. I was inspired to dive in and learn more about my own mind, as well as get a better understanding of others and what makes them tick.

Science now shows that positive wellbeing and good health are more than just the absence of disease.

“Wellbeing” as a concept moves the focus from the negative state of disease, through the middle state of zero, and into the thriving state of wellbeing. This means that wellbeing doesn’t merely mean the absence of disease. It’s about going beyond surviving to thriving. To reaching your fullest potential and truly flourishing as an individual

Research now shows that it is possible to foster and enhance a true state of wellness through your own practices, choices, actions, and environment. I love my work where I get to do exactly that.
